Description
The City of Mason City is seeking qualified playground designers and builders to design and construct a destination-class playground facility near the existing Prairie Playground. The project must include age-diverse activities, unique features identifiable to Mason City, inclusive and accessible play areas, sensory elements, adult supervision areas, flexible or turf surfacing, drainage designed for a 10-year rainfall event, and restoration of disturbed areas using native seed mixes. The existing playground will be demolished and the site leveled by the Owner. Installation is scheduled for the 2027–2028 construction season. The proposal must include a design narrative, scaled concept drawing, product data, shop drawings for custom equipment, coordination drawings, and operation and maintenance data. Bidders must demonstrate at least five years of playground construction experience, provide three relevant client references—including an Iowa or Midwest project, a project exceeding $2 million, and a custom project—and submit a portfolio and qualifications for key personnel. The scope includes new prefabricated or custom playground equipment, coordination, installation, warranties, and marketing updates during construction. A 10% bid bond is required with the proposal; performance and payment bonds at 100% are required after award. The stated project budget is not to exceed $2.9 million.
