Description
The City of Cedar Rapids is soliciting bids for a public improvement project involving demolition of the existing 8th Avenue Bridge over the Cedar River and construction of a new cable-stayed bridge. The work includes the bridge superstructure, concrete deck, tower, stay cables, bridge approaches, floodwalls, mechanically stabilized earth walls, drilled shafts, piles, bridge erection, structural concrete and steel, drainage, and vibration and noise monitoring. Additional work includes approach roadways, traffic control and signals, sidewalks, shared-use paths, trail reconstruction, sanitary and storm sewer work, water-main relocation, utility conduits, lighting, landscaping, erosion control, temporary access, and flood-emergency response measures. The engineer's opinion of probable cost is $123,000,000, and final completion is required within 1,250 calendar days. Addendum 2 clarifies applicable FHWA Buy America treatment for the complete stay cable system, micropile installation and testing requirements, permanent drilled-shaft casing, floodwall design elevation, and other plan and quantity revisions.
