Description
The City of Des Moines is soliciting construction services for phased replacement of existing boilers, hot water circulation pumps, mechanical equipment, associated piping, controls, electrical systems, and related appurtenances. The work includes installation of five new boilers, boiler controls, new flue gas ductwork, combustion and ventilation equipment, two main heat-loop circulation pumps with variable frequency drives, expansion tanks, instrumentation, safety systems, and SCADA-related controls. The contractor must maintain facility and digester heating operations during construction using a temporary hydronic heating system. The project also includes piping, pump, valve, controls, and heat-exchanger improvements in Digester Control Buildings 80-1, 80-2, and 80-3; airlock, HVAC, fire-rated penetration, and door improvements in the Digestion Complex tunnels; demolition of existing boilers, chimney, pumps, piping, and related equipment; startup, testing, training, and a 48-hour demonstration period. The contract documents require an installation floater and Boiler and Machinery Insurance, and identify performance, payment, and maintenance bonding requirements for the awarded contractor.
