Description
The City of West Des Moines is soliciting bids for construction of a multi-user fiber optic conduit network within public rights-of-way, easements, and other approved property throughout the city. The contractor must furnish and install approximately 7,220 linear feet of seven-way microduct, 13,430 linear feet each of 1.5-inch orange and blue conduit, 6,920 linear feet of 1.5-inch green conduit, 14,440 linear feet of 1-inch blue conduit with black stripe, 14 large vaults, 34 medium vaults, 63 small vaults, 44 test stations, 25,110 linear feet of tracer wire, and 10 connections to existing vaults. The work also includes traffic control, construction surveying, railroad protective liability insurance, railroad protection services, restoration, conduit proofing, tracer-wire testing, and electronic as-built documentation using GPS data. The network is intended to support future fiber-optic cable installation by internet service providers and does not include service-drop conduit to homes and businesses. Bids must be submitted electronically through the City's online bidding system by September 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Central Time, with a scanned bid bond or cashier's/certified check equal to 10% of the bid. The Bidder Status Form is required. The successful bidder must provide 100% performance and payment bonds, required insurance, and an 18-month maintenance guarantee. Work must begin within 10 days after written notice to proceed and be completed by January 29, 2027; liquidated damages are $500 per consecutive calendar day of delay.
