Description
The County of Santa Barbara is conducting an RFI to identify qualified providers for independent medical examinations of deaths occurring while individuals are detained, arrested, transported, jailed, or otherwise under law-enforcement detention. The selected provider must operate independently from the County's combined Sheriff-Coroner Office and exercise professional judgment regarding the circumstances, manner, and cause of death. Responders must demonstrate relevant medical examination experience, describe any comparable local-government contracts, provide a general fee structure, explain their proposed operational approach, identify operational requirements, and confirm compliance with the applicable physician qualification requirements. The medical examiner must be a licensed physician and surgeon qualified as a specialist in pathology. Responders must also confirm their ability to meet the County's insurance and indemnification requirements and agree not to provide unrelated medical examination services to the County or its Sheriff-Coroner Office during the service-agreement term. This RFI is for information-gathering purposes and does not obligate the County to issue an RFP or award a contract.
