Description
The City of Fort Morgan is seeking an attorney or law firm to provide ongoing prosecuting attorney services for its Municipal Court. The scope includes prosecuting municipal court cases; communicating with defendants, defense counsel, police, code enforcement and animal control personnel, witnesses, and victims; responding to motions; preparing cases for trial; representing the City in arraignments, jury trials, and other municipal court trials; conducting legal research; handling appeals; drafting subpoenas, motions, notices, and proposed orders; and advising on municipal traffic and criminal ordinances. The attorney will also coordinate with court and police personnel and perform related duties requested by the City Manager or City Attorney. The anticipated workload is approximately 12-16 hours per month for court dockets, with trials and other work scheduled as needed. Respondents must propose monthly compensation for routine matters and an hourly rate for additional services. A law degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school is required, along with active Colorado licensure and good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court. The proposal must address firm or individual qualifications, municipal prosecution and trial experience, municipal clients, proposed attorneys and availability, conflicts of interest, three references, and responses to two specified working-relationship and transition questions. Professional malpractice liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance, as required by law, must be maintained during performance.
