Description
Atlantic County is soliciting proposals from law firms and solo practitioners to serve as conflict public defenders for the Central Municipal Court from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2027. Selected attorneys will provide legal representation and customary defense services in municipal court matters, including disorderly persons offenses, motor vehicle offenses, driving-under-the-influence matters, domestic violence matters, ordinance violations, motions, trial preparation, sentencing preparation, and post-trial motions. Applicants must be active New Jersey attorneys in good standing, satisfy the requirements of N.J.S.A. 2B:24-4, possess municipal or Superior Court defense and trial experience, and carry legal malpractice insurance. Proposals must include qualifications, relevant experience, a flat fee per court session, session availability, known unavailability, and proof of insurance. The court may schedule up to 19 sessions per week, but no attorney is guaranteed a particular number of sessions; each public defender may propose availability for up to four sessions per week. Extraordinary work may be invoiced at $150 per hour subject to County approval.
