Description
The Town of Berthoud is seeking proposals from a Colorado-licensed attorney in good standing to serve as Alternate Municipal Judge and Hearing Officer for the Town’s Local Licensing Authority. The selected independent contractor will preside over Municipal Court proceedings when the Presiding Municipal Judge is unavailable, conduct liquor and marijuana licensing hearings, issue legal rulings and orders, evaluate evidence, and ensure proceedings comply with due process and applicable law. Minimum qualifications include at least five years of active legal practice, judicial service, or a combination; knowledge of Colorado municipal court rules, criminal procedure, evidence, traffic law, and municipal court procedures; sound judgment and judicial temperament; and successful completion of a criminal background check. The anticipated workload is approximately three court sessions per year, with additional matters as needed. Proposals must include a cover letter and resume, relevant experience, conflict-of-interest disclosures, professional references, and proposed compensation. The initial start date is February 11, 2027, and the appointment is subject to Town Board approval.
