Description
The U.S. Geological Survey requires nonpersonal heavy mineral separation services for rock and sediment samples supporting geochronology, isotope-tracer investigations, and critical-mineral research. The contractor must maintain a dedicated mineral-separation facility with trained technical staff experienced in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks and unconsolidated sediments, and must accommodate both kilogram-sized samples and small drill-core samples. Required work includes receiving and documenting samples, processing them into mineral separates based on size, density, and magnetic properties, using methods such as electro-pulse disaggregation, crushers, mills, heavy liquids, water tables, and magnetic separation equipment. The contractor must label all mineral-separate splits, provide spreadsheet reports describing the process and resulting splits, and return the separated fractions and leftover sample material. The firm-fixed-price performance period is October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027. Technical brochures or detailed specifications demonstrating compliance with the performance requirements must accompany the quotation.
