Description
The City of Iowa City is seeking one or more qualified law firms to provide as-needed outside defense counsel and supplemental legal services for Iowa workers’ compensation claims, disputes, and litigation. Services may include claim evaluation, legal advice, representation before administrative agencies and courts, hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, medical-record and expert-opinion analysis, liability and exposure assessment, settlement evaluation, and litigation strategy. Selected firms must demonstrate substantial experience with Iowa workers’ compensation law, related employment and labor issues, medical issues, and workers’ compensation proceedings. Assigned attorneys must be licensed and authorized to practice in Iowa, remain reasonably available, and coordinate with the City’s Legal Department, Risk Management staff, and third-party administrator. Work will be assigned solely on an as-needed basis, with no guaranteed minimum volume; the City may award one or more agreements and may retain other counsel.
