Imperial County, California is soliciting proposals from qualified veterinarians and final-year veterinary students to participate in its Veterinarian Recruitment and Retention Program. The program aims to address the shortage of veterinary services, particularly for large animals, in the county's rural and agricultural communities. Selected participants will receive an annual stipend of up to $75,000 for five years, totaling up to $375,000, to support student loan repayment or practice startup costs. Additionally, they will enter into a negotiated professional services agreement valued at up to $100,000 per year for up to five years. Participants must commit to full-time veterinary service in Imperial County for a minimum of five years, with an option to renew for an additional five-year term. The scope of services includes holding an active California veterinary license, serving as County Veterinarian, providing clinical services to large or mixed animals, establishing or maintaining a practice within the county, engaging with the community, and submitting annual performance reports. Proposals must include a cover letter, resume or CV, proof of licensure or enrollment, a statement of professional goals, a description of proposed practice, a detailed plan for stipend use, and three professional references. Evaluation will consider education, experience, commitment to the county, financial need, and community engagement strategy.
