Description
The U.S. Department of Transportation, in collaboration with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) and the Department of War (DoW), is seeking a contractor to develop a rocket propulsion and sonic boom acoustic propagation model. This model is intended to help planners increase the launch cadence of rocket-propelled air and spacecraft by providing tools to quantify noise exposure and create noise maps under various meteorological conditions. The model will assist in identifying areas of impact, informing decisions on monitoring station locations, and determining where more data is needed. The work involves developing or modifying existing infrasonic tools to model rocket propulsion and sonic boom acoustic propagation. Key tasks include initial design and documentation (metrics, algorithms, workflow, and software requirements), codebase development, and testing. The final deliverable will be an operational support software tool compatible with Air Force and Space Force workstations, capable of accounting for source level, frequency, dispersion, atmospheric absorption, refraction, diffraction, and ground reflections. The tool's output will include various noise measures such as Ldn, maximum overpressure, and Lmax, presented for points of interest and grids of receptor locations.
