Description
The University of Mississippi (UM) intends to purchase a refurbished Beckman LS6500 Liquid Scintillation Counter through a sole source procurement. This instrument is required by the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry to support ongoing research activities involving the detection and quantification of low-level radioactive isotopes in biological and chemical samples. The LS6500 provides the necessary sensitivity, counting efficiency, and analytical capabilities for current research protocols. GMIOpCo, LLC is identified as the only known vendor capable of providing this refurbished equipment. Due to the discontinued status of the LS6500 and the requirement for a vendor with appropriate licensing and expertise to provide a re-certified instrument containing a radioactive source and manage regulatory transfer requirements, GMIOpCo, LLC is considered the sole possible source. The cost for this item is $20,994.36, which is considered reasonable given the circumstances. The department has engaged with the supplier to obtain educational discounts.
