Description
The City of Ames is soliciting a contractor to supply and plant 35 nursery-stock replacement trees for its Emerald Ash Borer Response Plan. The work includes providing 1.0- to 1.5-inch-caliper trees from the approved species list; requesting utility locates before digging; planting and backfilling; supplying and spreading one 3-cubic-foot bag of hardwood mulch per tree; watering each tree with five gallons at planting; and restoring surrounding lawns and vegetation. Bidders must submit a proposed species-and-quantity list totaling 35 trees and meeting the required diversity mix: approximately 50% tall shade trees, 25% medium-height shade trees, and 25% shorter ornamental species, with no species exceeding 10% and no genus exceeding 20%. Planting must be completed by November 6, 2026. The contractor is responsible for replacing trees that die or are more than 75% dead within one year of planting, at no cost to the City. The solicitation also requires specified insurance coverage, including $1 million general liability and automobile liability limits, statutory workers’ compensation, and certificates and endorsements before work begins.
