Front Range Community College is pursuing a sole-source purchase of Serra Laser's LightBOT laser welding system. The package includes two LightWELD 1500 XR laser welders, two FANUC 10iA LightBOT cobot systems with integrated laser-welding interfaces, LightSAFE 8-by-16 split weld cells with doors and ceiling lighting, a FANUC Preston Eastin tilt-and-rotate positioner, laser welding helmets and glasses, shipping, wood crating, and related safety interlocks. The quotation includes on-site installation, setup, and training for the FANUC-to-LightWELD system. The quoted total is $229,136 before an educational discount, resulting in a discounted total of $213,096, including shipping to the school location. The sole-source justification states that Serra Laser is the exclusive provider of the integrated LightBOT robotic system and LightSAFE weld cells, which support both manual and automated welding instruction and include purpose-engineered safety interlocks.
