Description
Metra seeks a qualified contractor to provide as-needed electric flash-butt welding services on mainline and yard tracks throughout its six-county Chicago metropolitan service area. The scope includes roller-line welding; crop-and-weld operations; turnout and repair welding; welding new and secondhand 115RE and 136RE rail; required equipment, consumables, labor, mobilization, and magnetic-particle and visual inspections. Welds must meet AREMA requirements or an approved equal standard, and the contractor must maintain and submit detailed field welding records. The contractor must have at least five years of business experience and five years of relevant similar welding experience, respond to emergency calls within one hour, and complete emergency work within 72 hours. Work includes standard and overtime schedules, railroad safety training, PPE, permits, licenses, and compliance with applicable safety and environmental requirements. The contract is for three years with a not-to-exceed amount of $1,050,000; quantities are estimates and do not constitute a purchase commitment. No bid, performance, or payment bonds are required.
