Description
The City of Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC) is seeking qualified artists or artist teams to design and install a large-scale exterior mural at the Red Clay Theatre, located at 3116 Main St, Duluth, GA 30096. This mural will be a signature public art piece on the exterior wall facing Buford Highway, aiming to reflect Duluth's identity, diversity, and connection to music and culture. The selected artist will be responsible for developing the design, coordinating the project schedule, providing all materials and supplies, installation, and applying protective coatings. The existing brick surface has architectural elements such as three arched window openings, downspouts, light fixtures, and a marquee that must be incorporated into the design. The budget for this project is $80,000, which should include all associated costs. The application process involves two phases. Phase One requires artists to submit an artist statement/biography, portfolio, proposed project timeline, availability, and a design proposal fee. Phase Two will invite selected artists to develop and submit a proposed mural concept or sketch, with compensation provided for this phase as an advance against the total project compensation. Submissions will be evaluated based on artistic excellence, experience with large-scale murals, ability to translate themes of music and community, feasibility, and overall clarity of the proposal.
