Description
The Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) is seeking bids for railroad tie disposal services. This includes the processing, recycling, or reuse of approximately 45,000 used railroad ties annually. Bidders can propose using the ARRC-provided area at Birchwood Yard, an alternative ARRC-approved location along their main railbelt within Alaska, or a combination of both. All proposed locations are subject to ARRC operational, environmental, and Real Estate approval. Transportation of ties outside of Alaska is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The railroad ties are treated with creosote and may have steel hardware attached. The contractor will be responsible for all permitting, regulatory compliance, housekeeping, environmental protections, and avoiding interference with ARRC operations. Deliveries are anticipated primarily between July and November, with an average of 850 ties per railcar, approximately 5-10 railcars every 2-3 weeks. The contract duration is two years from the date of execution, with potential for three additional one-year extensions, not to exceed five years total.
