Description
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is soliciting proposals for a contract to provide comprehensive regulated medical waste (RMW) collection and disposal services. This includes the collection, packaging, transportation, and disposal of RMW as defined by state and federal regulations. The contract will encompass services for multiple locations across Virginia Tech's campus and affiliated centers, including the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, the Equine Medical Center, the Center for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute, the Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center, and the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary shipping containers, including 30-gallon cardboard boxes and reusable 96-gallon plastic containers, along with equivalent liners, at no additional charge to Virginia Tech. Incineration services will also be required for specific materials. The contract period is for three years with an option for two additional three-year renewals, as negotiated. The solicitation also encourages participation from SWaM (Small, Women-Owned, Minority-Owned) businesses and outlines specific proposal preparation and submission requirements, including electronic submission through Virginia Tech's procurement portal. Key requirements for the contractor include providing all services in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, offering on-call emergency collection services, and potentially providing training to Virginia Tech faculty and staff. The contractor must also bear the cost of spills and re-packaging, and possess all necessary licenses and permits for RMW handling. Pricing must be provided in a detailed schedule, and vendors are encouraged to register with the eVA system, Virginia's electronic procurement solution.
