Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting an industry day for a potential beneficial-use project at Piney Island. The project would place approximately 8,000 cubic yards of dredged material across 9.3 acres of degraded brackish marsh, targeting a final elevation of 1.15 feet NAVD88, plus or minus 0.25 feet and capped at 1.4 feet NAVD88. Potential sediment sources include the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, specifically Core Creek reaches, and Wainwright Slough. The placement site is approximately 12 to 15 miles from the potential dredging areas. The work is proposed as an option in the next Wilmington District Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway maintenance dredging contract, anticipated to be solicited in late spring or early summer 2027. The industry day will include a group meeting and optional individual contractor breakout sessions conducted through Microsoft Teams.
