Description
The City of Cedar Rapids is soliciting a firm-fixed-price contractor to demolish and remove one unsafe, detached steel utility building, leaving the foundation in place. The structure will not be tested before demolition and must be treated as containing regulated asbestos-containing materials and hazardous household waste. The scope includes removal of interior and exterior debris, permits and fees, utility verification, site protection, asbestos abatement and demolition, transportation and disposal of regulated waste, recycling or salvage of eligible steel, concrete, and asphalt, and final site cleanup. The contractor must comply with Iowa asbestos, environmental, OSHA, and demolition requirements; hold or subcontract the required Iowa asbestos credentials; provide licensed asbestos personnel and an onsite asbestos supervisor; obtain required permits and notifications; and maintain specified insurance coverage and endorsements. Pricing includes a base demolition item plus separate firm-fixed-price discovery items for septic tanks and cisterns. Work is authorized only after the City executes the contract and issues a purchase order, and the initial contract term ends October 31, 2026.
