Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source firm fixed-price purchase order to Thermo Electron North America, LLC for one Nicolet Summit X Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, model number 912A1139. This acquisition includes the necessary hardware, software, accessories, and warranty for the spectrometer's operation. The FTIR spectrometer is required to support the Rapid Quartz Analysis (RQA) monitoring approach developed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This method utilizes FTIR spectroscopy to measure respirable crystalline silica in dust samples, aiding in worker protection. The Nicolet Summit X is specified due to its compatibility with existing and future Thermo instrumentation platforms used by stakeholders implementing the RQA method. The CDC's current Thermo FTIR instruments are legacy models nearing end-of-life and require updated instrumentation to maintain compatibility with current software and support ongoing research. The period of performance for this contract is from the time of award to September 30, 2026. The equipment will be delivered and installed at the CDC-NIOSH facility located at 626 Cochran's Mill Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
