Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify potential sources for a compact 1156 nm fiber laser. This laser is intended for use in a portable optical clock to advance time-keeping technology. The laser must have a narrow linewidth and fit within specific dimensions to ensure portability. The specifications require a fiber laser with greater than 10mW optical power output from a PM fiber with an APC connector and a polarization extinction ratio better than 20dB. The laser must operate at 1156.839nm with a tuning range of greater than 0.35nm. The combined laser and controller must fit within 250mm x 125mm x 40mm, and the linewidth must be below 5kHz at a 100us integration time. A slow feedback option utilizing PZT-based tuning with a bandwidth greater than 5kHz is also required. A warranty of over 22 months is specified. NIST is also seeking information on optional Acoustic-Optical Modulators for feedback, requiring a feedback bandwidth greater than 450kHz, a feedback range of over +-5MHz, and a power loss from input of less than 3.5dB. Delivery is expected within 12 weeks ARO.
