Description
The City of Waukee is seeking an artist or artist team to develop, design, and permanently install one cohesive public artwork on the interior sides of a pedestrian and bicycle underpass. The artwork must use light, shadow, or sound and be original, suitable for public viewing, durable, low maintenance, visually engaging during day and night and across all seasons, and reflective of Waukee’s vibrancy and diversity. The underpass measures approximately 12 feet by 10 feet by 164 feet, and the artist is responsible for necessary wall preparation and site-related work. The preliminary maximum project budget is $30,000, including design fees, travel, materials, wall power washing, priming, site preparation, fabrication, documentation, transportation, installation, subcontractor work, maintenance, and honorariums. Eligibility requires two completed commissioned indoor or outdoor public artworks, each valued at least $25,000. Three finalists will receive a $500 stipend to refine their proposals. The selected artist or team will complete the project by summer 2027.
