The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission intends to enter into a single-source contract with Makai, Inc. for up to 50 days of liveaboard vessel support for multi-day SCUBA-based marine research and monitoring missions in the Florida Keys, Marquesas, and Dry Tortugas. Missions may include underwater surveys, deployment and recovery of monitoring equipment, biological sample collection, fishing and animal tagging, and other marine research activities. Individual missions are expected to last approximately 5 to 11 consecutive days, with service provided upon issuance of the purchase order through July 28, 2028. The vessel must be at least 80 feet long, USCG-inspected, capable of operating up to 100 miles offshore, and equipped for live-boat and Nitrox diving, scientific-equipment recovery, emergency response, crew support, accommodations for at least 10 scientific personnel, meals, satellite internet, power, and research-gear charging. It must also be capable, when required, of towing and accommodating an approximately 25-foot FWC research vessel. The intended contract price is $350,000, and the selected source must hold current National Park Service Commercial Use Authorization for commercial operations in Dry Tortugas National Park.
