Description
The Town of New Canaan is seeking a qualified professional planning consulting firm and/or architectural design firm to comprehensively review and update its Village District Design Guidelines in coordination with Town staff, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the public. The work includes reviewing existing guidelines, zoning regulations, and the 2024 Plan of Conservation and Development; identifying outdated or inconsistent provisions; developing an updated framework and content; addressing commercial and noncommercial areas, public-realm improvements, streetscapes, landscaping, public spaces, and illustrative materials; and recommending a clear design-review process and administrative structure. The consultant must develop and implement a public-engagement process with at least one public workshop, online engagement activities, and a desired final public-hearing presentation. Deliverables include a professionally designed, user-friendly final design-guidelines document in searchable PDF and editable Microsoft Word formats, plus digital files of all images and graphics. Proposals must describe the firm's experience, team, approach, engagement strategy, work program, schedule, task-level budget, similar projects and references, requested Town support, and proposed use of technology, including appropriate AI tools. The stated project budget is $30,000, and final approval and adoption is anticipated to take six to twelve months after contract execution.
