Description
The Town of South Kingstown is seeking an Assistant Solicitor or law firm to handle the Town’s misdemeanor criminal prosecutions in District Court and Family Court, related appeals, and Extreme Risk Protection Orders in Superior Court. The selected attorney will work under the Town Solicitor, coordinate with the Police Department, provide legal advice, prepare weekly case summaries, and potentially conduct in-service training on criminal law, procedures, and court rulings. The attorney must be admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, be in good standing, and have at least 10 years of general legal-practice experience, including at least five years of criminal-prosecution experience. Applicants must provide firm and candidate backgrounds, professional references, conflict-of-interest disclosures, evidence of at least $2,000,000 in professional liability insurance naming the Town as an additional insured, and completed disciplinary-record release authorizations for each attorney. The proposal must also address malpractice claims and disciplinary actions from the prior 10 years. Ten complete copies are required. The approved budget for the position is $46,773, and the selected attorney or firm may not subcontract or transfer the agreement without Town Council consent.
