The State of Rhode Island, Division of Purchases, is establishing a qualified vendor list for auto and truck towing services under MPA-403. The towing requirements are divided into four categories based on vehicle weight and number of axles: Category 1 covers passenger vehicles and light trucks under 8,000 GVW, requiring wheel lift tow trucks and flat bed trucks; Category 2 covers vehicles 8,001 to 18,000 GVW, requiring medium duty tow trucks with a minimum GVW of 25,000; Category 3 covers vehicles 18,001 to 30,000 GVW, requiring heavy duty tow trucks with a minimum GVW of 35,000; and Category 4 covers vehicles 30,001 GVW and greater, requiring tandem axle tow trucks with a minimum GVW of 55,000 and 50-ton wreckers. Vendors must complete a Vendor Assessment Form with pricing and equipment lists, and equipment will be verified by the state prior to award. The contract is a multi-year award of three years with two one-year extension options. This is a service and price list only, not an exclusive contract, and does not guarantee work.
