Description
The City of Carlsbad is soliciting a lump-sum construction bid to reconstruct three existing stairways adjacent to the Hacienda at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. The work includes providing all labor, equipment, materials, tools, transportation, permits, utilities, and other items necessary to rebuild the stairs with new materials while preserving their historic appearance and complying with current codes. The contractor must install flat stone treads and risers, flush integral-colored concrete “red carpet” sections, consistent tread and riser dimensions, and replacement handrails. Because the permanent railings have an extended lead time, the contractor must first provide and install compliant temporary railings, then return to remove them and install the permanent railings. Construction should preferably be phased so at least one stairway remains open, although the City may authorize closure of all three if the contractor demonstrates that doing so would materially reduce the schedule or cost while maintaining safe pedestrian access. The estimated bid value is $395,000, and the project duration is 45 working days.
