Description
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is soliciting a contractor for the supply, installation, splicing, and testing of a new fiber optic cabling system along approximately 50 miles of the active Knowledge Corridor Rail Line. The system includes 48-strand armored single-mode backbone cable, 48-strand lateral fiber cables, 1.25-inch and 2-inch innerduct, conduit or duct installation where plowing is not feasible, handholes, pull boxes, and connections to existing signal houses, cases, station communication enclosures, Amtrak nodes, and ITS nodes. MassDOT will provide the fiber cable reels, innerduct reels, and pull boxes, and will install fiber optic patch panels in its signal houses and cases. The contractor must provide required pigtails, splice lateral fibers and pigtails, install fiber optic connectors, and provide fiber optic panels and pigtails at three Amtrak and two ITS nodes. Related work includes directional drilling, surveying, rail plowing, vacuum truck operations, trucking and disposal, safety oversight, quality control, CPM scheduling, and photography. The stated duration is 600 calendar days, with an 8% MWBE participation goal for SDO-certified firms.
