Description
The City of Ames seeks a contractor to provide snow and ice removal at 91 CyRide bus stops and two end-point turnarounds and their sidewalks during the 2026/27 winter season. Optional work includes 34 additional bus stops on the Iowa State University campus and the turnarounds. Work includes clearing bus stop pads, walkways, shelters, and benches; maintaining a continuous five-foot-wide path to the curb; prioritizing ADA and designated high-use stops; and applying ice melt or sand as appropriate. Snow removal generally must begin within two hours after qualifying snowfall or street clearing and be completed within 24 hours after work begins. The contractor must provide labor, equipment, materials, and traffic safety measures. Subcontracting is capped at 50%, and proposed subcontractors and their work portions must be identified with the bid. The contract covers the 2026/27 winter season and may be renewed for up to four additional contract periods, subject to mutual agreement and funding approval. A 1% local consideration applies to eligible businesses located within Ames city limits that pay commercial property tax; a notarized Local Business Certificate is submitted only when applicable.
