Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is soliciting proposals from livestock owners and operators to conduct cattle grazing for excess vegetation disposal on approximately 3,499 acres of the Antelope allotment within the Tehama Wildlife Area. The selected permittee will support deer winter-range management while maintaining residual dry matter between 446 and 800 pounds per acre, avoiding impacts to riparian and wetland areas, distributing livestock evenly, managing ingress and egress, and addressing livestock trespass. Only cattle may be used, and the operator must be able to respond to emergencies on the premises within two hours. The permit term is three years and seven months, commencing December 1, 2026, or upon state approval, whichever is later, and ending June 30, 2030; annual grazing periods run from January 15 through May 15. Proposals must demonstrate at least 10 years of wildlife-friendly grazing experience on public or conservation-easement-protected lands and include plans for eight habitat and operations goals, a proposed fee per acre per year, references and reference letters, disclosures, and the required certification and authorization materials. The awardee must later provide specified insurance documentation, but those post-award materials are not part of the proposal submission package.
