Description
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, requires fixed-price services to establish and operate an approximately 1,500-row maize winter nursery in Chile. The work includes providing land and land preparation; planting; irrigation, fertilization, weed and pest control; crop monitoring; pollination; inspections; harvesting; drying and shelling; fumigation and phytosanitary activities as required; progress reporting; packaging; and preparation of seed for return shipment. The nursery will include approximately 920 self-pollinated rows, 80 sib-pollinated rows, and 250 paired male/female row sets totaling approximately 500 rows for cross-pollination. The contractor must provide crop-development reports and photographs, perform hand harvesting and drying to approximately 12%–14% moisture, package the resulting seed according to USDA instructions, and provide container and weight information for shipment. The stated period of performance is October 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027.
