Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is soliciting proposals from livestock owners and operators to conduct cattle grazing as excess vegetation disposal on approximately 3,206 acres of the Hogsback allotment within the Tehama Wildlife Area. The selected permittee will manage grazing to support deer winter-range habitat, retain between 446 and 800 pounds per acre of residual dry matter, avoid impacts to riparian areas and wetlands, distribute livestock evenly, manage ingress and egress, and prevent trespass onto adjoining properties. Only cattle may be used, and grazing is limited to January 15 through May 15 during each annual grazing period. Proposers must demonstrate at least 10 years of wildlife-friendly grazing experience on public or conservation-easement-protected lands, provide at least one reference and reference letter, and show the ability to respond to emergencies within two hours. The proposal package must include the required checklist, transmittal letter, statement of qualifications, eight goal-specific proposals, disclosure statements, fee proposal, references and reference letters, site-inspection certification, proposal certification, and applicable authorization documentation. The selected permittee will be responsible for maintaining fencing, securing water if needed, measuring and reporting residual dry matter, and complying with specified insurance and permit requirements after award.
