Description
Mississippi State University, through its Institute for Imaging and Analytical Technologies (I2AT), is seeking to purchase two advanced microscopy systems: a ThermoFisher Scientific Helios 5 Hydra CX Dual Beam System and a ThermoFisher Scientific Spectra 200 S/TEM. These systems are intended to support advanced materials characterization for local manufacturers, funded by a Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending grant. The Helios 5 Hydra CX Dual Beam System offers unique capabilities including a multi-ion species plasma FIB (Xenon, Argon, Oxygen, and Nitrogen) for optimized sample preparation and analysis with minimal damage, and extreme high-resolution optics with sub-nanometer resolution. The Spectra 200 S/TEM features a proprietary EMPAD-2 detector for advanced 4D-STEM applications, exceptional mechanical and thermal stability, and an integrated EDS system for live elemental quantification. FEI Company (an affiliate of ThermoFisher Scientific) is the sole source for these integrated systems due to their proprietary technologies and unique configurations. The total negotiated cost for both systems, including preferred service agreements, is $5,186,011, representing a significant discount from the list price. The university has conducted extensive market research and determined that no other vendors can meet the specific technical requirements of these advanced instruments.
