The Department of Veterans Affairs is soliciting a firm-fixed-price quotation from a small business for a one-time repair of a Peerless 5AEF11G 1,000 GPM fire pump. The contractor must remove and replace the existing packing; inspect the stuffing box, gland, and shaft sleeve; furnish and install a replacement shaft sleeve if necessary; provide replacement high-grade packing rings, packing gland hardware, a casing relief valve, and case gasket; clean and repack the pump; manually rotate the shaft; restore operation; adjust the packing glands and relief valve; verify proper operation and absence of leaks or other issues; and perform daily cleanup. The contractor must provide all labor, tools, materials, replacement components, and travel, including the cost of potential shaft sleeve replacement. Work must comply with current applicable fire-pump standards, including NFPA 20 and NFPA 25, as well as NFPA 99, OSHA, Joint Commission, VA, UL, NEC, state, and local requirements and manufacturer specifications. The contractor must coordinate scheduling and system shutdowns, comply with facility access and safety policies, and perform work during the permitted hours specified in the PWS. The VA is responsible for fire-watch and impairment coordination, and contractor personnel will be escorted because credentialing is not applicable. The pump must be tested for proper operation before completion; a full annual flow test is not required. Work must commence within 14 calendar days after award and be completed within 14 calendar days of commencement.
