Description
Suffolk County is seeking qualified legal counsel to represent its self-funded and self-administered Workers' Compensation Program. Required services include representation at Workers' Compensation Board hearings and proceedings; preparation of Board arguments and appeals; management of medical and lay testimony; depositions; preliminary, arbitration, and conciliation hearings; lump-sum and Section 32 settlements; claims forms, subpoenas, and related correspondence; and advice on claims strategy. The contractor must obtain prior written approval before settling claims, provide hearing and claims reports, conduct regular claims reviews, present quarterly seminars, and keep the County informed of relevant legal developments. Assigned attorneys must be employees of the contractor and members in good standing of the New York State Bar. The proposal must include a transmittal letter, proposer profile and history, personnel qualifications and resumes, professional-license copies, financial statements, indebtedness/liens and litigation information, bankruptcy disclosures, client history, three references, conflict-of-interest disclosures, technical services response, subcontractor information if applicable, and a separate cost proposal/fee schedule. The solicitation anticipates a three-year term from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029, with three one-year renewal options. Compliance forms are identified in the RFP, but the RFP states that they are required from the apparent successful proposer only upon request.
