Description
The University of Akron seeks a general contractor to replace the existing Cooling Tower #2 at its Physical Facilities Operations Center. The work includes removal and replacement of the cooling tower and associated mechanical piping, electrical work, and structural repairs. The specified tower is a three-cell, induced-draft crossflow unit; the base bid calls for galvanized construction, with alternates for stainless-steel basin or tower construction and additional tower bypass piping and valve work. The contractor is responsible for coordinating and completing the work under a single-prime contract. The estimated construction cost is $900,000. An EDGE participation goal of 5% applies. The bid form requires an electronic bid and an electronic bid guaranty; the original bid guaranty must also be delivered within three business days after bid opening unless an electronic verification system is used. The Bidder’s Qualifications form and EDGE Affidavit are encouraged with the bid and may be requested later; they are not unconditionally due with the bid.
