Description
The U.S. Air Force is conducting market research for a next-generation one-person life raft intended for aircrew survival kits and up to 14 days of isolated-person survival. The desired system must provide compact, lightweight flotation for a broad range of users and include features such as automatic inflation, integrated search-and-rescue and infrared reflector attachment points, rainwater collection, self-bailing or pumping capability, an inflatable insulated floor, adjustable sea-anchor deployment, internal lighting, infrared-signature management, rapid deflation, wave resistance, oral inflation valves, an inflatable spray shield, ventilation, and secured internal storage. The anticipated initial requirement is approximately 2,000 production rafts and approximately 30 ruggedized training rafts. Training units must replicate the fielded raft's dimensions and features while supporting repeated use, reinforced construction, at least 250 inflation/deflation/boarding cycles, heavy-duty TPU material, abrasion resistance, and rated boarding points. Respondents are asked to describe current compliance with the system requirements, identify deficiencies and development needs, provide availability and production schedules, submit a rough-order-of-magnitude cost estimate, and address product-support engineering data, technical manuals, and technical-data rights. Responses are limited to 20 pages, with the ROM estimate limited to 2–3 pages.
