The Office on Violence Against Women is offering discretionary grants under the Violence Against Women Tribal Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Initiative. Grant recipients will work with a United States Attorneys' Office partner to hire or retain a mutually agreed-upon attorney who will be cross-designated as both a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and a Tribal prosecutor. The initiative supports investigation and prosecution of Violence Against Women Act crimes in Indian country, improved jurisdictional coverage, coordination among Tribal, federal, and state law enforcement agencies, and stronger relationships with Tribal communities. Three awards are expected, with estimated total program funding of $4,380,000. Each award is expected to be $1,460,000, with no cost-sharing or matching requirement. Eligibility is limited to the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and the Yurok Tribe of the Yurok Reservation, California.
