Description
The National Endowment for the Humanities is accepting applications to establish 20-year restricted endowments that support long-term humanities research and teaching at eligible colleges, universities, and independent educational and research institutions. Proposed work must advance at least one of the program’s specified humanities areas, including civic education, civil discourse, cultural literacy, close reading, and the study of Western civilization and significant works of literature, history, philosophy, and theology. Applicants may request $1 million to $3 million in federal matching funds, with a required one-to-one match from eligible non-federal gifts. Up to an additional $100,000 may be requested for eligible fundraising support costs. The grant period of performance may be one to three years to raise and certify matching gifts and establish the endowment; the endowment principal is then restricted for a 20-year term. Applications require a narrative, fundraising work plan, endowment spending plan, institutional and financial documentation, key personnel resumes, and commitment letters, along with required Grants.gov forms. Some supporting components are optional or conditionally required.
