Description

The City of Providence, through the Public Property Department and Providence Public School Department, is soliciting a contractor for comprehensive electrical service and distribution upgrades at Classical High School. The work includes demolition; coordination with the utility; underground duct banks, conduits, manholes, splice boxes, transformers, switchboards, breakers, panelboards, metering, surge protection, grounding, power-conditioning equipment, feeder modifications, and integration with existing emergency and standby power systems. The contractor must also provide short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies; testing, commissioning, labeling, training, excavation, trenching, and restoration of concrete, asphalt, sidewalks, fencing, and landscaping. The scope has been expanded to include hazardous-material and asbestos abatement, including removal of approximately 282 square feet of assumed asbestos thermal insulation in Building H's electric room, and replacement of two sets of double doors in Building 2 with 60-minute hollow-metal doors, panic hardware, and removable mullions. Work at the occupied school must be phased and coordinated around school operations, with shutdown planning, site security, occupant protection, and maintained access and emergency egress. Asbestos work must be performed by a Rhode Island Department of Health-licensed asbestos abatement contractor, and the contractor must coordinate required notifications, containment, air monitoring, clearance, disposal, and related regulatory compliance.
