Description
The U.S. Navy is seeking a new structureborne noise mitigation material to replace the current lead septum foam used in electronic cabinets and consoles on COLUMBIA/Dreadnought SSBNs. The new material must have performance characteristics equivalent or better than the baseline lead septum foam (part number 53711-3203197), with a life expectancy exceeding forty years to meet the end-of-life of the platforms. It must also meet the Structureborne Noise MILSPEC (MIL-STD-740-2) criteria for testing. The material will be installed in Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Fire Control, NAV, and TEMPALT equipment cabinets. In addition to the material itself, the solicitation seeks an efficient attachment method that reduces replacement time compared to the current pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. The final product should be reproducible in sheet sizes equivalent to the baseline material. Work produced in Phase II may become classified, and the selected contractor must be U.S. owned and operated with no foreign influence, and must be able to acquire and maintain a secret level facility and Personnel Security Clearances.
