Description
The National Institutes of Health seeks one or more vendors to provide postmortem human brain and associated tissue specimens on an ongoing basis for neurological and psychiatric research. The scope includes reviewing medical-examiner or hospital cases for eligibility, providing case histories and next-of-kin information, coordinating consent with the Human Brain Collection Core, and procuring brains, 40–90 cc of blood, nasopharyngeal swabs, and potentially other tissues during autopsy. The contractor must promptly extract, document, package, and ship specimens in compliance with applicable regulations. Specimens must generally be received within 48 hours after death and within 12 hours after extraction; the contractor must provide required facilities, equipment including an ice-making machine, regulatory approvals, permits, licenses, relevant death and toxicology documentation, and at least two relevant past-performance references. The requirement is unrestricted and will be evaluated on technical approach, personnel qualifications, past performance, price, and delivery schedule.
