Description
The National Institutes of Health is seeking applications for the Model-to-Clinic (M2C) component of the Precision Medicine with AI: Integrating Imaging with Multimodal Data (PRIMED-AI) Program. The opportunity supports translation of technically validated, image-centered multimodal artificial intelligence clinical decision-support tools, developed as Software as a Medical Device, into clinical applications addressing significant unmet health needs. Clinical imaging must anchor the model and be integrated with at least one additional health-data modality. Projects must use a milestone-driven UG3/UH3 structure. The UG3 phase, limited to up to two years, focuses on model refinement, data governance, technical validation, regulatory preparation, clinical implementation infrastructure, and preliminary feasibility. The UH3 phase focuses on clinical deployment, prospective or other real-world validation, workflow integration, performance monitoring, and evidence supporting adoption; the combined project period may not exceed five years. Applicants must address five program pillars, including data quality and governance, clinically grounded AI technology, implementation and adoption, multidisciplinary expertise, and error mitigation and technical management. The latter requires a separate attachment of no more than three pages. Applicants may request up to $450,000 in annual direct costs for UG3 and $1,000,000 in direct costs for UH3. Approximately six to eight awards are anticipated.
