Description
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, within the National Institutes of Health, invites applications from clinical centers to participate in a consortium conducting therapeutic clinical trials of anti-obesity medication treatment strategies for children and adolescents with obesity. Proposed research should maximize treatment benefits while minimizing risks and may address medication selection, dosing, timing, duration, weight-loss rate, weight-loss maintenance, discontinuation, and adjunct behavioral, nutritional, sleep, or physical-activity interventions. Clinical centers may conduct independent or multicenter trials but must collaborate on common protocols, measures, data elements, laboratory procedures, biospecimen collection, data analysis, and publications. Applicants must demonstrate successful experience conducting pediatric obesity-treatment clinical trials and provide multidisciplinary expertise and appropriate resources. The cooperative agreement permits substantial NIH programmatic involvement, including Steering Committee participation, protocol review, data and safety monitoring, and coordination of consortium activities. Up to three awards are anticipated, with a maximum project period of five years and annual budgets limited to $1,000,000 in direct costs per award.
