The Bureau of Justice Assistance is offering FY 2026 formula grants under the DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction program. Funding supports eligible states, units of local government, special districts, and public and state institutions of higher education that operate existing crime laboratories conducting DNA analysis. Grant funds are intended to process more DNA samples for entry into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), increase laboratory capacity, reduce forensic DNA and DNA database samples awaiting analysis, and prevent future backlogs. The opportunity anticipates approximately 140 awards, with awards ranging from $0 to $3,500,000, and does not require cost sharing or matching funds.
