Description
The U.S. Department of the Navy, specifically the Undersea Special Mission Systems Program Office (PMS390), is seeking industry input for a next-generation submarine rescue system (SRS) to replace the current capability within five years of a design development contract award. This unclassified Industry Day event, scheduled for September 2, 2026, in Washington D.C., aims to facilitate discussions on innovative ideas, technical offerings, challenges, and emerging technologies. The Navy is looking for a materiel solution that includes multiple, commercially classified, small, and highly transportable rescue vehicles. Key capabilities required include built-in decompression capabilities within the rescue vehicles, high operational availability, rapid transportability (fitting into commercial and military cargo aircraft), and reduced life-cycle costs. The final solution must be commercially certified by an International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) member. PMS390 is open to various contracting, ownership, operation, maintenance, and supportability strategies. Desired system characteristics include a modular design, maximization of existing commercial products, rapid air transportability, low maintenance, high reliability, redundancy, and the ability to perform decompression with air or regulated oxygen. The system should also support integration of future capabilities and be designed for portability and configurability for saturation diving purposes, with an internal depth design of 300 meters seawater.
