Description
The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is soliciting competitive bids for External Fiduciary Counsel. This role will provide legal advice and services to the SURS Board of Trustees and staff concerning fiduciary duties, investments, public sector retirement plans, Illinois state law, board governance, labor and employment matters, and litigation. SURS administers retirement, survivor, disability, and death benefits for employees of Illinois state universities, community colleges, and affiliated organizations. The system manages a Defined Benefit Plan with over $25.2 billion in assets, as well as two Defined Contribution Plans. The selected vendor(s) will be expected to provide comprehensive legal guidance, attend board meetings, assist with legislative matters, and represent SURS in legal proceedings as needed. A contract is anticipated to be for five years with the option to extend for two additional one-year terms.
