Description
The New York State Unified Court System (UCS) is soliciting proposals for its Judiciary Civil Legal Services' Legal Empowerment Project. This initiative aims to provide quality free legal services to vulnerable individuals at or below 200% of the federal poverty threshold and underserved populations across ten New York counties: Bronx, Erie, Kings, Monroe, Nassau, New York, Onondaga, Queens, Suffolk, and Westchester. The total funding allocated for this project is $6,000,000 annually, with a maximum of $600,000 available per county per 12-month period. Eligible clients are New York State residents living at or below 200% of the federal poverty threshold who face barriers to safety, stability, or access to justice. Services will encompass legal advice and representation in areas such as family law, residency matters, public benefits, consumer rights, disability rights, and veterans' benefits. Awarded contractors will be expected to conduct intakes, provide crisis intervention, advocate on behalf of clients, represent them in legal proceedings, and conduct community outreach and education. Contracts will be awarded on a county-by-county basis for a term of five years, with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2026. Applicants must be not-for-profit entities with a physical office space within each county service area for which they are applying. The UCS will award one or two contracts per county.
